Attract More Joy Into Your Life by Creating a JOY List

Many of you are not only a mother, you are also SUPERWOMAN! You are a mother, partner, professional, volunteer, personal chef for you family, housekeeper, personal organizer, friend, and family member. You can accomplish more in a 24 hour period than most people accomplish all week.  You will sacrifice sleep to ensure your family is taken care of, meet deadlines, and ensure your household runs as smoothly as possible.

Your family is loved and well taken care of but who is taking care of you? Think of your body as a pitcher of water. As you go through the day you are constantly filling up other’s cups around you.  When your pitcher is empty, you can no longer fill others.  You must take time to practice self care and fill your own pitcher first! If you don’t, you will run dry.

How do you fill your own pitcher first? Participate in regular activities that that fill you up and bring you JOY! This can be a simple activity that requires only a few minutes of attention or an elaborate day of pampering.  What brings you joy in your life?  How can you show up as the best version of you?

What brings you joy? What activities do you consciously engage in that fill you up? How can you transform an everyday moment into something extraordinary?

A joy list is a list of activities in your life that bring you joy.  This list includes activities that make your heart, mind, body and/or soul soar!

How to create a joy list?

On a blank piece of paper, make a list of 30 or more activities in your life that bring you joy.  This can be a simple activity that requires only a few minutes of attention or an elaborate day of pampering.  The first question to ask is, "What brings you joy in your life?"

What types of activities to include on your joy list?

Include a VARIETY of activities including those that:

  • Take less than 15 minutes
  • Take an hour or more

How to use your joy list?

Intentionally do something from your joy list at least once a week with the goal of increasing to once a day. You will start a self care routine that will decrease the feeling of running on empty. In the meantime, If you are feeling burnt out, refer to your joy list and select an activity. Hang your list in a highly visible location such as your refrigerator door or bathroom mirror.  Continuously add to your joy list.
