Top Remedy for Mom + Baby to Relieve Occasional Congestion

My friend and I had a picnic day with our toddlers over the weekend and as we lay down our blankets, I noticed the runny snots coming out of my friend and her toddler. Itchy eyes, tissue after tissue sneezes... it was distracting to our conversation! She kept apologizing and I told her I used to experience the seasonal discomforts until I made my own remedy to relieve the occasional congestion. The day I stopped having to tout around a nasal aspirator for my toddler when we went on our weekly hikes was a joyous day!

Nasal aspirators have become a common way to safely relieve occasional congestion in toddlers and I’m sure my friend is eternally grateful for an easy tool, but there’s an easier and more, effective solution using essential oils.

The Three that are Most Effective

The essential oils that are most effective for seasonal discomfort are lavender, peppermint, and lemon essential oils as they help support a healthy inflammatory response.

For toddlers specifically, using 2 drops of each one diluted with fractionated coconut oil in a roll-on bottle worked great (I get my roll-on bottles and basically all of my remedy tools from AromaTools). Roll on the bottoms of your toddler’s feet each night that your toddler is experiencing occasional nasal congestion.

For mom (or any adult), you can apply 2 drops of each of the lavender, peppermint, and lemon essential oil neat (without dilution) and rub at the bottoms of your feet.

You can also take doTERRA’s Tri-Ease capsules, but I personally recommend using the essential oils as you can use each of the oils for multiple purposes such as peppermint for head tension, lemon for homemade cleaning products,  and lavender to reduce anxious feelings.

Safety Measures

If you’re new to essential oils, it’s important to test your and your toddler's sensitivity to any essential oils before full application by applying it to a small patch at the back of your hand. If you know you’re not allergic or sensitive to these oils, you’ll enjoy a safer more natural solution to relieve your congestions.
