Are you ready for a new direction? Are you ready to reflect upon the last 365 days, let go of what no longer serves you, and set yourself in the direction of your desires in the upcoming year? If so, read on! This is for you.
Today, I am going to teach you how set some rocking goals for the new year and how to use essential oils to support those goals.
You will identify four areas of your life to set goals for the upcoming year and I am going to give you an easy method to implement to help you rock your best year.
While mentoring leaders over the past 10 years in our wellness business, one thing I know for certain is that without clarity, goals are not achieved and results aren’t sustainable. One of the best ways to achieve clarity is through reflection, gratitude and creating a vision. Here is an exercise to deepen clarity in your vision and create direction to achieve the best version of YOU. Credit to Coach Tiffany Peterson at
tiffanyspeaks.com who originally introduced me to this process.
Grab a journal or a few sheets of blank paper, your favorite pen, a cup of tea and let’s get started!
STEP #1: REFLECTION
In a journal or blank sheet of paper, thoroughly answer the following questions:
- What were your wins & victories this year?
- What was your biggest challenge or heartache this year?
- What was the gift of this challenge or heartache?
- What are you most proud of in yourself this year?
- What makes you feel the most joy in your life?
Ok, now that we know where we came from, let’s get clear on where we are going. Don’t cheat yourself, be sure to complete the above questions before moving forward.
STEP #2: VISION
Four areas of focus include:
- Health
- Relationships
- Spiritual
- Finances
- What do you want to feel more of in the coming year?
- What do you want to feel more of in your HEALTH (physically, mentally, vitality)?
- What do you want to feel more of in your RELATIONSHIPS (family, friends, partner, spouse, business)?
- What do you want to feel more of in your SPIRITUAL life (this can be spiritual, religious, or personal growth)
- What do you want to feel more of in your FINANCES (business, investments, budgeting)?
Why focus on the feeling? Because human motivation and action is derived from feelings. You want to achieve a new level in your business, a healthier body, a romantic relationship, a new car, a different house? Why? How will that make you feel? The motivation is attached to the feeling, not the object.
Ok, now you know where you have been and where you are going. Lets make a plan to get there!
STEP #3: DIRECTION
On a blank sheet of paper, draw 2 intersecting lines to make a quadrant. In each quadrant, write one of these 4 words: health, spiritual, relationships, and finances.
Next to each word, rate your current satisfaction in each of these 4 areas, 1 being totally dissatisfied and 10 being perfect.
Now it’s time for the BEST part! Write down ONE action to help you move towards the way you would like to feel in each of these areas. What would move you even one number up from the original number you rated each area?
Vision Quadrant
Your vision quadrant is filled out with an action item for each category, now what? Take action and incorporate these habits into your life. Revisit the vision quadrant regularly and adjust as needed. I recommend revisiting weekly! Your goal stays on there until it is achieved, becomes an automatic habit, or is adjusted to best fit your vision. Once your goal is achieved, CELEBRATE, and replace the previous goal with a new action item to move you in the direction of your vision. If you are worried about, “falling off the wagon” rally an accountability partner to share your goals with each week. This can be a friend, family member, spouse, co-worker, mentor, coach, etc. An accountability partner is like a workout buddy for your dreams!

How do I personally use this process? At the end of each month, I journal on Steps 1-3. Weekly, on Sunday evenings, I take 10-15 minutes to go through Step 3, reassess my priorities and adjust my vision quadrant goals. This is what I call living a life by design with clarity, passion, and consistency. This helps me prioritize my life and week with what's most important.
Essential Oils to Use to Support Your New Goals
Health Category
For a lot of people their health goals are often related to eating better, losing/gaining weight, or exercising more. Some oils to support these goals would include doTERRA Slim and Sassy, Grapefruit, Lemon, Lime, Wild Orange, or any other citrusy oils. Set these oils by your sink and add them to your first glass of water each day, this will help make using the oils a habit.
If your goal is to exercise more try using oils such as Deep Blue, Breathe, and Peppermint. Deep Blue helps to relax the muscles after a workout, but you could also use it to release some muscle tension before you get to the gym that way you are ready to go once you arrive at the gym. I recommend grabbing doTERRA’s new Deep Blue Stick and keeping it in your gym bag for connivence. Breathe helps to support and open your airways, you could use this by adding a drop to your chest before a workout. Peppermint Oil can be great for motivation on the days when you feel like you are dragging getting to the gym.
Relationships Category
My favorite oil to use in supporting goals for this category is the Rose Touch Oil. Rose Oil helps to open the heart and it is the oil of divine love. I am currently working on reaching out to people whom I’ve lost touch with and letting them know I am thinking about them, before doing this I will roll on a little Rose Touch Oil.
Some other oils that are great for relationships include: Neroli, Geranium, and Cedar Wood. Neroli is great for physical intimacy; in my doTERRA team we call Neroli, “the baby maker.” Geranium is the oil of love and trust. Cedar Wood is the oil of community, so if your goal is to foster a sense of community this oil would be great to use for that.
Finance/Business Category
The oil that I love using when I am goal setting is Wild Orange, this is the oil of abundance. Any of the tree oils are also great to use when setting finance or business goals, so Fir, Siberian Fir, Douglas Fir, and Balance. If you are setting some goals around budgeting and there is some scarcity in your budget right now, these oils would be perfect to use. The tree oils are grounding oils and will help you to feel safe and secure.
Spiritual Category
Keep in mind that spiritual can be faith based, personal development, or a connection with your higher self. Whatever your goals in this category may be there are oils to help with them. Frankincense, Clary Sage, Sandalwood are all great oils to apply to your third eye before meditation, they are great for calming the mind. You could also use these oils before Bible Study or prayer.
Set a One Word Intention for the Year
This is something I have been doing for seven years now. The first year I did this, I was really struggling with being pulled in a lot of directions and I was unhappy. My word for that year was bliss. Little did I know that word would evolve into "Blissed Mama" and become my blog name and my handle on social media @theblissedmama.
The idea is to pick a word that will be your theme for the year and whenever you start to feel like you are losing your track, you can go back to that one word. I want you to take it a step further though and create a custom blend of essential oils to go with your word. The cool thing about custom blends is that you don’t normally smell them often, so whenever you do smell that blend your brain will associate the aroma with your word of the year. Check out some of the custom blend recipes below, you can use those or you can create your own.
If you don’t prioritize your life, no one else is going to do it for you. Each day is a new beginning. There is no need to wait until a New Year, a new month, or a new week to start this process. The best time to start is NOW! Start creating a life you love.
