If you haven’t heard of the Enneagram before it is a system of personality typing that explains patterns in the ways in which people interpret the world and manage their emotions. There are nine different personality types in the Enneagram. The Enneagram dates to ancient times although there is no consensus of where exactly it came from.
As you can see above the Enneagram is often visually represented on a nine-point diagram, this helps to portray how the types relate to one another.
If you don’t know your Enneagram type, I recommend going to PersonalityPath.com
and taking their free test to find out which type you are. You do not have to buy anything and it doesn’t require you to give your email.
Once you know and understand your Enneagram type, you can really begin to grow emotionally and enhance your strengths and gifts. The important thing to remember is that we have a little bit of each type in all of us, but there is one type that you most identify with and is more dominate.
Keep in mind…
- No type is inherently better or worse than any other.
- Each type has unique assets, and each type has unique liabilities.
- The goal is the become your best self, not to strive to imitate or become another type.
- The descriptions are not gender biased.
- They apply equally to males and females.
- People do not switch from one basic personality to another.
Why should you care?
Understanding your type will aid in self-awareness, self-understanding, and self-development. You’ll also better understand why other behave as they do.
I know that there is probably an urge to skip down to your type and read about, but I encourage you to read about the other types and think about who in your life might identify with a particular type and what are their core values.
