A Day in the Life of an Essential Oil Lover | Daily doTERRA Routine

Ever wonder what it might look like to incorporate essential oils into your everyday routine? In this article I break down all the ways I use essential oils throughout the day.

Morning Wake-Up

First thing I do to kick off my morning routine is head to the kitchen and drink a full glass of water. There has been a ton of research done on the health benefits of this. I like to add a little bit of citrus oil to my water; grapefruit, lemon, and wild orange are just a few of the citrus oils you can try.

Next up, I make my matcha, using ceremonial matcha. I don’t drink a lot of coffee, so this is essentially my energy booster for the morning. I make my matcha bulletproof style, click the button below for my recipe.

I am currently using a drop a turmeric and a drop of lemon in my tea, but I also sometimes like turmeric and peppermint or just peppermint depending on the day.

Then it’s time to prepare supplements for me and my daughter. For my daughter, I give her doTERRA a2z Chewable, IQ Mega, and PB Assist Jr; these supplements are all available through doTERRA’s Children’s Supplements.

To learn more about the children's supplements read my article, Wellness Essentials for Back to School.

For myself I take doTERRA’s Lifelong Vitality Supplements, PB Assist, Mito2Max, TerraZyme, and I rotate through Zendocrine, DDR, or something similar depending on the month. If you are not familiar with doTERRA’s supplements and what they are used for, I highly recommend checking out my article, doTERRA Supplements Explained.

Once I’ve had my water, tea, and supplements for the day, I will get the diffusers started. I have a diffuser in every room, but I start with the diffuser that is in the main part of the house. Most mornings, I like to start off by diffusing something uplifting like Frankincense and Peppermint or Peppermint and Wild Orange. If it is a slow-moving day, like a weekend, I will use the Hygge Cozy Blend or Northern Escape.

If there are dishes from the previous day I will put in a load of dishes using the Abode Line Dishwasher Tabs. If anything needs to be hand-washed I use the Abode Dish Soap. To learn more about doTERRA’s Abode Line, check out my article, Detox Your Home's Cleaning Routine with doTERRA's Newest Abode Line.

If anything needs a little bit of cleansing like my sink I will go ahead and spray that down as well using the Abode Multi-Surface Cleaner. For all of my non-toxic cleaning products, check out my article, How to Make Household Cleaners with Essential Oils.

On days when my daughter is taking a little longer to eat breakfast, I will move on to the laundry room and get a load of laundry going. I keep both the Abode Laundry Detergent and the On Guard Laundry Detergent on hand. Right now, I am loving the Abode Laundry Detergent, but I like to keep both on hand. In the cabinet above my washer and dryer I keep essential oils that I like to use in my washer and on my dryer balls. Some of the most popular essential oils I use in my wash are Purify, Wild Orange, and Grapefruit.

Fun fact about me, I have over 100 house plants. I keep some of my plants that need a little rehab or some TLC in my laundry room and I will move on to spraying those down once the laundry has been started. I spray all my plants, but it is easiest to get started in this room. Check out the video below to get my recipe for Happy Plant Spray.

By this time my daughter is usually ready, and we will head out to drop her off at school. When I get back home it is then time for me to head out to the gym or go downstairs to my own gym. While it is important to me that I do something to get my body moving, I don’t always make it to the gym. Some of my favorite things at the gym are spin and yoga. I also love the sauna; in fact, I love it so much I have my own in my house. I have a diffuser in my home gym, and I will get that started before beginning my workout. Right now, I am loving the combination of Eucalyptus and Cedarwood for workouts. I also like to use Motivate or the Yoga Collection Oils.

After my workout, it is time for me to get ready for the day. I don’t get ready right when I wake up, I used to when I worked in a corporate office. Now I often take my kid to school in whatever I wore to bed the night before.

In the shower I keep my doTERRA shampoo and conditioner. If you are interested in reading more about doTERRA’s newest hair care line, check out my article, New doTERRA Hair Care Review | 2021 Formula Update.

I also keep the doTERRA Reveal Facial System in my shower, this is one of my favorite products that doTERRA has. I sometimes like to add Blue Tansy or Rosemary to my hair. Rosemary is good for hair growth, so I keep that in my shower as well. I also keep Geranium in the shower since I like to add that to my face wash and moisturizer. I brush my teeth in the shower as well, so I keep doTERRA’s On Guard Toothpaste in my shower.

I have lots of plants in my bathroom, so after my shower I will make sure to spray those down with the oil spray I mentioned above. Once that is done, I will head over to the sink where I keep all my doTERRA skin care products and begin working through my skin care routine. If you are interested in my personal skin care routine or about doTERRA’s different skin care lines, check out this article, Skin Care Review with doTERRA | HD clear, Verage, & Essential Skin Care Line Explained. A few of my skin care favorites are the Verage Skin Care Line, the Anti-Aging Eye Cream, and the doTERRA Spa Detoxifying Mud Mask.

Once my skin care routine is complete, I will roll on whatever oil I am feeling for the day. I wear Rose Oil every day, but sometimes I will layer it with other oils. I add Rose Oil to my pulse points, my throat, and my stomach. If it is a day where I am needing to forgive myself or others, I will swipe a little Forgive Blend on. I also like Frankincense and Immortelle in my moisturizer. I use ClaryCalm on my armpits, for hormone health, along with doTERRA’s deodorant. Then I use the Yarrow | Pom body serum to moisturize the rest of my body. Next, I will swish with the doTERRA On Guard Mouthwash. Lastly, I will use the doTERRA Salon Essentials Root to Tip Serum in my hair, it makes my hair smooth, and I absolutely love it.

Afternoon

By this time I am usually feeling a little hungry and will make myself an afternoon smoothie.

Recipe
  • 1 Scoop of doTERRA Vegan Protein Powder
  • 1/2 Banana
  • Handful of frozen spinach
  • Few drops of Lemon Oil
  • 1 Cup of Almond Milk

doTERRA has a nutrition line that includes protein powder, greens, and fiber. To learn more about this line read, So you want to talk about nutrition?

Then I am ready to get started on work. My work involves teaching people about holistic wellness. This includes the work I do on my YouTube channel or my socials, I respond to messages, plan out content for the week, and mentor new customers or new team builders.

I have an office, but I am often working in my living room or kitchen. At this point I will start diffusing some oils to inspire creativity and focus. I like using InTune for focus, Motivate for motivation, Peppermint, or any citrus oil for productivity. After work I pick up my daughter, we come home and play and talk about her day.

Evening

In the evening around dinner time, I will begin our wind down routine. This often means switching out the oil in the diffusers. Serenity, Adaptiv, or any calming oils is what I typically use in the diffuser. An hour before bedtime I will get the diffusers in the bedrooms going. My daughter usually picks out what she wants in the diffuser for her room, lately her favorites have been Serenity, Breathe, or Midnight Forest.

One of the best ways to get oils on little ones is by adding it to the bath, so for bath time we will grab whatever essential oils she chooses and add a few drops to her bath.  After her bath she will get into PJ’s and head to bed. I have a video linked below for a Sleepy Bath Time Combo.

Sometimes after a long day I will take a bath too. If I am experiencing any muscle tension I will use the combo linked below to melt away any muscle tension.

Once our daughter is in bed, my husband and I will spend time relaxing which can often look like us playing a game or me reading a book. When we are ready for bed, we will get the diffuser in our bedroom going; right now, I like using Tulsi with Serenity or Lavender in our bedroom diffuser. Then I will rub some oils on my feet, lately I have been using Magnolia, but I also like Adaptiv or Copaiba. I should mention that we all use oils on our feet before bed, my husband likes Frankincense or Balance, and for my daughter I use Calmer on her feet.

Then I begin my nighttime skin care routine; it is similar to my morning skin care routine that is linked above. Then it’s time to slip into bed and drift off to dreamland.

I hope this is helpful in showing you how easy it is to incorporate essential oils into your day. One of the ways I make this easier is by keeping the essential oils I want to use for each part of my routine in the room where I complete that routine. If you watch the YouTube Video at the beginning of this article you will see all the different places, I keep my essential oils.
