What is the AromaTouch Technique?

As a leading expert on the use of essential oils for medicinal purposes, Dr. David K. Hill, developed the AromaTouch Technique. There are four systemic constants in the body stress, toxic insult, inflammatory response, and autonomic imbalance. To address the four constants in the body, Dr. David K. Hill used his knowledge of essential oil science, his own experience using essential oils, his training as a physician, and his experience of working with patients. Dr. Hill wanted to develop a way to manage these systemic constants and return the body to a state of homeostasis. The AromaTouch Technique is used to stimulate and enhance body function. Once you’ve enrolled with the AromaTouch Training Kit, you will receive access to the certification course which is taught by Dr. David K. Hill.

Addressing the Four Constants

Below, I break down each of the oils that come in the AromaTouch Training Kit and explain which of the four constants each oil addresses.

Stress Management

Stress can come in many different forms emotional distress, chaotic work life, financial worry, lack of sleep, family disputes, and many other life occurrences. Studies have shown that there are many negative consequences associated with high stress levels over extended periods of time. doTERRA Balance and Lavender are two essential oils that can help reduce stress levels.

doTERRA Balance
Balance is a proprietary blend that contains a mix of all the essential oils below.

Ingredients: Spruce, Ho Wood, Frankincense, Blue Tansy, Blue Chamomile, Osmanthus, Fractionated Coconut Oil

Balance Essential Oil helps to create a sense of well-being and reduce anxious feelings. Balance was created by doTERRA to serve as their grounding blend. As the name suggest Balance Essential Oil promotes balance throughout multiple body systems. According to doTERRA’s website (doterra.com) Native Americans used Spruce, an oil found in Balance, for health and spiritual reasons and is currently used to promote harmony among the mind and body.

Balance has a lot of amazing benefits including:
  • Grounding: Began your day by putting it on the bottom of your feet to feel more grounded.
  • AromaTouch Hand Massage: Use 1-2 drops
  • Overwhelm: Apply to your wrists or neck.
  • Road Trips: Diffuse in your car to help calm the environment.
  • Ground Emotions: Use topically on pulse point, behind the ears, and bottoms of the feet.
  • Stressed Out: Diffuse during a stressful event or meeting.
  • Bedtime: Put it on the bottoms of your feet before bedtime to help promote a good night's rest.
  • Bath: Add a few drops in a relaxing bath with some Epsom Salt.
  • Anxious Feelings: Inhale directly from the palms of your hands.
  • Yoga/Meditation: Use in the diffuser or over Heart Chakra during your yoga or meditation practice.

Lavender
Lavender has been called the Swiss Army Knife of essential oils, because of its versatility.

Lavender is known as the calming oil. It is calming to the brain, the skin, and emotionally. You can add this oil to a diffuser with other oils or diffuse it by itself.   This oil is also great for skin irritation or minor burns. I actually keep lavender in the kitchen because I am prone to burning myself while cooking and this helps with the discomfort. It also works for mild sunburns as well.   If you are the type of person who puts lotion on before going to bed you can combine a few drops of lavender with your favorite unscented lotion and apply to your body before bed to promote an all-over calming effect.

Immunity – Toxic Insult

Our bodies are constantly bombarded by toxins that impair our natural ability to fight off illness.

Tea Tree
Tea Tree is a natural disinfectant.Tea Tree essential oil is best known for its purifying properties. Tea Tree oil can be used to cleanse the skin, clean surfaces in the home, and purify the air. It can be applied to the skin after shaving or to the fingernails and toenails after showering to keep them looking healthy. It can also be added to water and a spray bottle to clean surfaces in your home.

On Guard
doTERRA On Guard is another proprietary blend made by doTERRA, it contains the essential oils listed below.

Ingredients: Wild Orange, Clove, Cinnamon, Eucalyptus, Rosemary

How to use On Guard
  • Immune Boost: Add two to three drops in a veggie capsule.
  • All Purpose Cleaner: Add to water for an effective all-purpose surface cleaner.
  • Sliced Apple Treat: Soak sliced apples in water and add a few drops for a healthy, immune boosting snack.
  • Hand Cleanser: Combined with coconut oil.
  • Protection & Shielding: Use a few drops in a diffuser or diffuser jewelry.
  • Increase Boundaries: Use topically or in a diffuser.
  • Energetic Parasites: Add a few drops to a diffuser or apply topically.
  • Environmental Threats: Diffuse a few drops.
  • Toothbrush Cleanser: Add 1- 2 drops in a glass of water and let soak.
  • Mouthwash: Add a drop to water and swish.

This is extremely popular oil in doTERRA it helps to support a healthy immune system. On Guard also has supplemental facts on the back of the bottle so you can be sure its safe to ingest.

On Guard smells kind of like the fall season and is the perfect replacement for those toxic fall candles in your home. The fall and winter also seem to be a time when more people get sick, so this is perfect to diffuse in your home during those seasons.

doTERRA also makes an On Guard concentrated cleaner that you can make 12+ bottles of all-purpose surface cleaner from for less than $2 a bottle. There are so many products doTERRA carries within their On Guard line, like toothpaste, mouthwash, and laundry detergent.

Homeostasis – Autonomic Imbalance

Autonomic imbalance is the opposite of homeostasis. Three of the major contributors to autonomic imbalance include stress, decreased immunity, and inflammation. Peppermint and Wild Orange are two essential oils that can promote homeostasis within the body.

Peppermint
Peppermint is one of those oils that has the supplemental facts on the back, so this is an oil that can be ingested. One drop of Peppermint oil is the equivalent of about 20 cups of peppermint tea.

Peppermint helps to open the airways, making it the perfect oil to use when you are congested or just have a stuffy nose. You can use peppermint by inhaling it after rubbing a drop in your palms or you can diffuse by adding 3-5 drops to your diffuser.

You can also just add a drop of peppermint right on your tongue. I love to keep Peppermint in my backpack when I'm hiking. If I'm on the top of a fourteen-er, which is a 14,000 foot mountain, and there's not a lot of oxygen, I can rub a bit of Peppermint oil on my chest and really get those airways open.

Below are some other cool uses for Peppermint essential oil.

Peppermint
  • Mouth Rinse: Use with lemon oil in water for a healthy, refreshing mouth rinse.
  • Stomach: Take one to two drops in a veggie capsule for occasional stomach upset.
  • Food Flavor: Add a drop to your favorite smoothie recipe for a refreshing twist.
  • Pick Me Up: Place one drop with wild orange in the palm of your hand an inhale.
  • Focus: Add a few drops with the citrus oil in the diffuser.
  • Energy: Use diluted topically or in the diffuser.
  • After Sun Spray: Mix with lavender, Frankincense, and FCO and apply to skin.
  • Brownies: Add a few drops to a brownie recipe.

Wild Orange
Primary Benefits
  • Renowned for its cleansing and rejuvenating effect on the skin
  • Diffuse throughout the home to help purify and freshen the air
  • Soothing to irritated skin

Wild Orange smells amazing, but of course it is way more than a fragrance oil. It takes about 10 pounds of oranges to make one bottle of Wild Orange.

That is the amazing thing about doTERRA, you can be sure that their oils contain zero synthetic materials. When you buy oils from online retailers or your local health food store, you cannot be sure that the oil is pure. The other cool thing is that doTERRA puts supplemental information on the back of the oils that are safe to ingest. In order for these supplemental facts to be used these oils go through many tests before they are made for the public to use. You can be sure that these oils have been looked over by scientists and doctors, and they are perfectly safe to ingest.

Wild Orange is the perfect oil for an afternoon pick me up. You can put a drop of Wild Orange in your palm, along with one drop of peppermint, rub your palms together, and inhale deeply. The Peppermint helps to open your airways and Wild Orange is very uplifting for the mood. Check out Pub Med for over 1500 research articles sharing the benefits of Wild Orange essential oil.

Citrus essential oils can naturally stimulate the cleansing channels within our body and help to eliminate toxins. One thing I really love about doTERRA is their commitment to making sure their recommendations and research is top notch. They are currently working with medical clinics across the globe to advance essential oil research in the medical community.

Citrus oils have high levels of limonene and Wild Orange, Grapefruit, and Tangerine have 95% or more limonene. Limonene stimulates that body’s production of glutathione. Glutathione has many benefits for the body including promoting homeostasis within the body.

The newest research of using citrus essential oils internally has shown that cleanse the mucus membranes, enhance digestion, enhance receptor sites in the cell, and so much more. Check for supplemental facts on each bottle of doTERRA Essential Oils to find out if the oil is safe to use internally.

Here are some other ways to use Wild Orange

How to Use
  • Household: use in an all-purpose spray to cleanse and purify surfaces.
  • Flavor: Add a drop to your water every day for a burst of flavor and to promote overall health.
  • Mood: Diffuse to uplift mood and energy levels and to freshen the air.
  • Energizing Boost: Add one to two drops in the palm together and inhale deeply from palms, then rub on the back of neck.
  • Diffuse: Wild Orange combines well with any oils to give it a hint of citrusy aroma.
  • Furniture Polish: Combine olive oil, vinegar, and Wild Orange into a spray bottle.
  • Immune System: Add 1-2 drops to a capsule to help support a healthy immune system.

Inflammation – Inflammatory Response

Inflammation within the body occurs when the body is experiences injury to its tissues. Trauma, exposure to toxins, bacteria, heat, and consumption of foods with pro-inflammatory components are all contributors of inflammation within the body. AromaTouch (doTERRA’s Massage Blend) and Deep Blue (doTERRA’s Soothing Blend) used in combination with the AromaTouch Technique can help to optimize the body’s response to inflammatory contributors.
AromaTouch

Use topically for pain; it's great to use for massages too! I hold a lot of my stress in my neck, sometimes I put a few drops of AromaTouch onto my palms and massage it into my neck to relieve some of the strain from stress. You can also add a few drops to your bath to help relax your muscles. According to doTERRA’s website (doterra.com), “This popular blend is a vital part of the dōTERRA AromaTouch Technique, a proprietary method for applying essential oils to produce a profound whole-body wellness experience.”

Deep Blue
Deep Blue is doTERRA’s Soothing Blend
Deep Blue is great to use for all things discomfort. It doesn’t overload liver and doesn’t build up toxins in your system.

Deep Blue Essential Oil is another proprietary blend of Wintergreen, Camphor, Peppermint, Ylang Ylang, Helichrysum, Blue Tansy, Blue Chamomile, and Osmanthus. Deep Blue products are the among doTERRA's top selling products. You can rub Deep Blue on to the back of your neck after a long day of sitting at your computer or looking at your phone.
