Whether you are brand new or if you have been with me for a while you know that I have been talking about all of the amazing ways to live and love the low-tox lifestyle. Once you realize how fun, easy and affordable it is to make simple swaps around your home, it’s almost addicting.
In this article we will be discussing options to makeover your bathroom cabinet with natural, low-tox alternatives.
Head Tension
Unfortunately, everyone deals with, temporary head tension, from time to time. Whatever it is that is causing your head to throb, we have solutions that are natural and easy.
Anytime I am getting temporary head tension, I like to reach for my Past Tense roller bottle blend. Appropriately also known as Tension Blend, once rolled or applied to temples, neck, shoulders, or back you will instantly feel stress and strain melt away. Another option to have handy for this purpose is Peppermint! I cannot tell you how many times it has saved me when my head was pounding.
Achy Joints
We all know the feeling of temporary aches and tension in our joints.
Whether it is our aging bodies or overworked muscles - we have a simple, natural solution. Deep Blue Soothing Blend to the rescue! Deep Blue was formulated to soothe and cool when massaged after a long day or a strenuous workout. Deep Blue also comes as a rub or in a stick applicator, which makes a handy option for easy, greaseless, topical application.
Make sure you do not apply this prior to bathing or within 20 minutes of exiting the shower.
Continuing on the subject of aches and tension, we have another weapon in our arsenal. A few years ago, I made

Skin Care
One of the unsung heroes of my medicine cabinet is my Yarrow | Pom Cellular Beauty Complex supplements. Containing powerful antioxidants and essential oils, this supplement will support your skin from the inside out and you will literally feel like you are glowing!

Your bathroom cabinet should have some kind of face wash in them, right? dōTERRA has a few options for us!
HD Clear as well as the Facial Cleanser from the Essentials Skincare line are two of the options we have. Both are enriched with essential oils and natural cleansers to help leave your face feeling fresh, smooth, and clean. HD Clear face wash is targeted towards more acne-prone skin while the Facial Cleanser could be more of an everyday option.
Along with facewash, comes entire skin care systems! Because once the skin is cleansed, it needs to be pampered further. And boy do we have plenty of options to choose from.
Four to be exact: the Yarrow|Pom Collection, Essential Skin Care Kit, Veráge Skin Care Collection, and the HD Clear Facial Kit.
Problematic skin is the worst! Some of the 3 or 4 step systems can be loaded with harsh chemicals and extremely over-drying to the skin. doTERRA has you covered!
HD Clear Topical Blend is a roller that can be used to clear up any imperfections on the skin. Apply a thin layer to targeted areas or use it as a spot treatment. Be sure to dilute with a carrier oil like fractionated coconut oil to reduce skin sensitivity as HD Clear is a roller but it has not been pre-diluted with FCO like most rollers are. If you do not have HD Clear, take a drop of undiluted Purify and pop right on top of your blemish before bedtime. Thank me later.
Lotions and spa products are definitely a large part of my bathroom cabinet and I have been so happy with all of the products from the dōTERRA Spa Collection. From Spa Hand and Body Lotion to a Detoxifying Mud Mask to Bath Bars, you can find all of your personal hygiene needs that are natural and chemical-free.
Baby Care
dōTERRA has a Hair and Body wash formulated especially for babies! There is also a Diaper Rash Cream as well.
The foaming hair and body wash are tear-free and will leave your baby or even big kids with a light, fresh scent! Vanilla extract combined with Lavender and Roman Chamomile will also relax them at bath time to wind them down for the night.
The Diaper Rash Cream is amazing! It will help balance, soothe and heal the skin while creating a barrier to prevent extra moisture which will stop diaper rash before it starts. Also - the Diaper Cream can offer some sun protection if you are in a pinch because it contains zinc oxide, it is a natural sun repellent. Even though my daughter is way past the diaper stage, we still keep this product stocked in our house. It is great for soothing skin irritation and has a gentle formula that is perfect for all skin.
First Aid
We have all done it, accidentally tapped your arm on the oven or curling iron to our neck. Ouch!! What to reach for... what to reach for?
Lavender of course! Apply neat or diluted to the area of concern for instant relief. Lavender also is great for too much sun!
If you really want to see good results, give this a try!
In a 2 oz spray bottle combine:
10 drops Lavender
10 drops Frankincense
10 drops Tea Tree
Top with Fractionated Coconut oil and spray on irritated skin as needed
This recipe is also good for all things skin so it is a staple in our house, it also doubles as a great support spray for owies and boo boo’s.
If you are accident-prone or have kids running around then you most definitely need an option for temporary cuts, scrapes, and boo-boos of all kinds. You need Correct-X!
Correct-X is a natural ointment that will soothe your skin and help it return to its normal, healthy state after injury. Frankincense, Helichrysum, Tea Tree, Cedarwood, and Lavender are all the major players used to make this possible. Correct-X will provide a moisture barrier that will protect as well as hydrate the skin.
The best part of this: it is petroleum and preservative-free.
Another option that I highly recommend keeping on hand for first aid purposes, is Helichrysum Oil. This oil has been referred to as liquid stitches, it is rejuvenating to the skin, helps reduce the appearance of blemishes, and is soothing to the skin.
Seasonal Threats
When the flowers bloom and the dust kicks up, sometimes our bodies respond to these seasonal changes with getting a little temporary congestion.
TriEase Softgels contain equal parts of Lemon, Lavender, and Peppermint essential oils because of their natural respiratory support properties. This is a super easy natural, non-drowsy alternative!
In addition to the TriEase, you can also whip up a 10 ml roller to have handy as well. Roll this on the bottoms of your feet or on the back of your neck.
Combine:
10 drops Lemon*
10 drops Lavender
10 drops Peppermint
5 drops Tea Tree
Top with Fractionated Coconut Oil and roll as needed

At bedtime, add 3 drops of each Lemon, Lavender, and Peppermint to your diffuser for a restful, seasonal threat-free, night!
I like to beef up my immune game especially when traveling. My go-to plan is what I like to refer to as my F.L.O.O.T. roller.
In a 10 ml roller combine:
10 drops Frankincense
10 drops Lemon
10 drops OnGuard
5 drops Oregano
10 drops Tea Tree
Top with Fractionated Coconut Oil and roll apply daily to bottoms of feet to stay protected and as needed if coming down with something.

In addition to the immune support roller, I keep OnGuard+ Softgels on hand at ALL TIMES. These convenient supplements are jam-packed with oil goodness and are ready to go so they are perfect for travel. For your little ones, keep a Stronger Roller on hand.
Temporary Congestion
Unfortunately, the store-bought chest rubs are full of unsavory ingredients.
dōTERRA has a safer option - Breathe Respiratory Blend is composed of essential oils that all promote clear, healthy airways. Pop some Breathe in the diffuser to help open up your airways.
Another great product is the Breathe Vapor Stick. The Vapor Stick glides on the skin easily and does not leave a greasy residue. Apply to the chest as needed or even to the bottoms of the feet at bedtime to enjoy a cooling and soothing vapor. No chemicals - just clear breathing.
Pro tip: Using steam from the shower add a few drops of Breathe to the shower floor and run hot water to create steam and inhale for congestion relief.
Throat Irritation/Tickle
Natural swaps to soothe an irritated throat.
Homemade Respiratory Syrup
- ½ cup honey
- 8 drops Peppermint
- 8 drops Lemon
- 8 drops Lavender
- 8 drops Frankincense
- 3 drops Clove
- 3 drops Wild Orange
- 1 drop Cinnamon
Mix and take 1 teaspoon every 3 hours as needed
Another option that I swear by is the On Guard Throat Drops.
As soon as I feel that tickle in the back of my throat, I start popping them like they are going out of style. And more times than not - it stops whatever was creeping in dead in its tracks. I also never travel without them as they make great lozenges for the airplane to keep my immune system supported.
Another tip: To a spoon add 1 drop of Ginger, 2 drops Copaiba, and 3 drops of Lemon to a teaspoon of honey. Take from the spoon or add to hot tea.
Ear Discomfort
Chances are if you have a little one you have experienced them having ear discomfort.
The tugging at the ears, the crying… yup, you know it! No need to fear - we have oils for that!
Apply a drop of Tea Tree, Basil, and Lavender in one teaspoon of carrier oil and massage behind the ear and into the ear lobe (never in the ears) every 3-4 hours for children and every 2 hours for adults.
Tummy Trouble
It is time to break up with the nasty pink drink that we all knew as kids to ease a queasy tummy. There is a new sheriff in town - Peppermint Enteric Softgels. Peppermint essential oil is encapsulated in an enteric softgel to provide digestive relief. Peppermint relaxes the gastrointestinal muscles and calms the stomach. The unique thing about this softgel is the enteric coating which allows for the Peppermint to pass through the stomach and its acid to reach the small intestines where it is most effective.
While we are on the subject - we need to talk about two more staples for the bathroom cabinet: DigestZen and Tamer. DigestZen Digestive Blend acts as an aid to the digestion of food and will assist you with all your digestion needs. This means both ways if you know what I am saying.

Rounding out our “replacement of the pink drink” series is another perhaps underrated product - Ginger Drops. These drops will help ease digestion as well as settle any occasional stomach discomfort. Queasiness? Motion sickness? You need these babies!
Bug Repellent
Essential oils can be a wonderful alternative to chemical sprays you may have used in the past.
Terrashield Outdoor blend comes in a 15 mL bottle but also as a premade spray so you can choose what is best for you. I can guarantee you won’t want to be without it when you are camping, boating, or enjoying the great outdoors in any way during the summer months.
If you want to DIY, in a 2 oz spray bottle combine:
- 10 drops Terrashield
- 10 drops Lemongrass
- 10 drops Geranium
- 10 drops Peppermint
- Add Fractionated Coconut Oil to fill.
Shake well and spray on exposed areas.
Pro tip: spray on pet collars to help keep ticks at bay from our four-legged friends.
High Body Temperatures
They get a bad rap but really they are proof that our bodies and immune systems are doing exactly as they are supposed to and fighting off what is invading your body. That’s why we don’t want to suppress them, we just want to keep the body comfortable.
If experiencing a high temperature, dilute 1 drop of Lavender in a carrier oil and massage the back of the neck, feet, behind ears, etc. Dilute 1 drop of Peppermint in a carrier oil and rub into bottoms of feet as well. Repeat every few hours and watch the essential oils work their magic by supporting the body’s immune system.
Mouth Care
A place where nasty chemicals really like to hide out is our toothpaste.
Once I made the switch to dōTERRA’s On Guard Natural Whitening Toothpaste, I could not even stand using traditional toothpaste! On Guard toothpaste is fluoride-free and uses the natural sweetener xylitol with a refreshing cinnamon-mint flavor that leaves your mouth feeling fresh and clean all day!
