How to Make Lip Balms and Lip Sugar Scrubs | DIY Holiday Gifts Using Essential Oils

Welcome to the final part of my five-part DIY Holiday Gifts Using Essential Oils series. This week we are making gifts that will leave your lips kissable and soft all year long. These lip sugar scrubs and lip balms make perfect gifts or stocking stuffers, plus you can make some extra for yourself to use throughout the year and skip buying store bought lip balm.

The previous three parts of this series can be found below.

DIY Lip Balm

Lip balms aren't just for winter; they're a year-round necessity! Every single person on your list can use lip balm, so it really does make the perfect gift.

You can whip up these lip balms in around 10 minutes and they will leave your lips feeling tingly, soft, and slightly silky. You may never buy traditional ChapStick again after making these.

Ingredients
Instructions
  • Melt beeswax, cocoa butter, and coconut oil in double boiler.
  • Once melted, remove from heat and stir in vitamin e and essential oils.
  • Pour into lip balm containers and let cool completely before putting on lids.
  • Apply to lips as needed.

If you would like to make a lip balm that isn’t minty there are several combinations, you can try. If you use an oil like doTERRA’s Madagascar Vanilla, I recommend adding more drops of essential oil than the above recipe.

Benefits of Shea Butter

Shea butter is a skincare powerhouse. Extracted from the nuts of the shea tree, it boasts a rich concentration of fatty acids and vitamins, making it an ideal choice for intense moisturization. In lip balms, shea butter helps to lock in moisture, providing a deep hydration that leaves your lips feeling supple and soft. Plus, its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties are like a soothing hug for your delicate lip skin.

Benefits of Cocoa Butter

Derived from cocoa beans, cocoa butter is not just a treat for your senses; it's a treat for your skin too. Known for its ultra-hydrating properties, cocoa butter forms a protective barrier on your lips, shielding them from harsh weather conditions. The subtle scent of chocolate is an added bonus, creating a delightful lip-smacking experience. Additionally, cocoa butter contains antioxidants that combat free radicals, promoting healthier and more resilient lips.

DIY Lip Sugar Scrub

Now get ready to pamper your lips with a heavenly lip sugar scrub. This delicious, natural, exfoliating lip scrub will leave your lips feeling smooth and rejuvenated. Customize it by using any of your favorite essential oils. For extra soft lips, apply lip balm after the scrub.

Ingredients
  • 4 teaspoons brown sugar
  • 3 teaspoons virgin coconut oil
  • 3 teaspoons honey
  • 4 drops SuperMint Essential Oil
Instructions
  • Mix brown sugar, coconut oil, and honey in small bowl.
  • Add desired essential oils.
  • Stir until ingredients are combined.
  • Put contents into container(s) of your choice.
  • Apply to lips as needed.

Note: This recipe makes a little less than a ¼ cup. Either portion out the mixture into several airtight containers or adjust the recipe to fit the container you have.

Once mixed, package this sugary goodness into cute jars. In the past I have used mini Nutella jars, small honey jars like you get at restaurants, or just any relatively small jar that is airtight. Now, here's the fun part – exfoliate those lips! Gently rub the scrub on your lips, savor the delightful aroma, and wipe it away. Top it off with your DIY lip balm for the ultimate lip-loving experience.

Feel free to swap out the SuperMint for a different essential oil if you prefer. Madagascar Vanilla and Wild Orange make for a delightful lip scrub.

Benefits of Sugar Lip Scrub

The primary purpose of a sugar lip scrub is to exfoliate the delicate skin on your lips. The sugar granules help remove dead skin cells, leaving your lips smoother and softer. This is particularly beneficial in preventing chapped or dry lips. Regular use of a sugar lip scrub helps to eliminate rough, flaky patches, revealing softer and smoother lips. This is especially useful in harsh weather conditions or during seasons when lips are prone to dryness. The gentle massaging action of applying a lip scrub promotes blood circulation to the lips, contributing to a healthy and rosy appearance.

There you have it, your ticket to soft, hydrated lips all year round. Whether you're gifting these creations or indulging in some self-care, these DIY lip products are sure to make your lips the star of the show. As always, I hope you enjoy the process of making these DIY gifts as much as you enjoy the finished product.
