How to Use Niaouli Essential Oil | Everyday Uses and Benefits of Niaouli

Ready to discover an essential oil that packs a powerful punch when it comes to supporting your overall health and wellness? Meet Niaouli essential oil, a versatile oil extracted from the leaves of the Niaouli tree. While this oil has been used for centuries in traditional medicine practices, it's only available at limited times from doTERRA, so you may not have heard much about it. In this article, we'll explore the unique benefits and properties of Niaouli essential oil, and why you may want to consider adding it to your essential oil collection.

Niaouli essential oil is a type of essential oil that is extracted from the leaves of the Niaouli tree (Melaleuca quinquenervia), which is native to Australia and New Caledonia. The oil has a fresh, camphoraceous aroma with sweet, woody undertones, and is often used in aromatherapy and natural health remedies. Niaouli shares many of the same properties as Tea Tree – this is because both essential oils come from the Melaleuca Tree (different species of the same tree). Niaouli comes from the Melaleuca quinquenervia plant, while Tea Tree comes from the Melaleuca alternifolia plant. Despite coming from different species of the same tree, Niaouli smells fresher, cleaner, and crisper than Tea Tree. It's a great oil to diffuse with Bergamot, Wild Orange, Lemon, or even Lime to create an uplifting, spa-like atmosphere.

The Niaouli tree is known for its ability to thrive in harsh and challenging environments. These trees are native to Australia and other regions with similar climates, such as New Caledonia, and are typically found growing in areas with poor soil quality, low rainfall, and high levels of salinity.

One of the reasons why the Melaleuca tree is able to grow in such challenging conditions is its unique root system. The roots of the tree are able to absorb and store water, which allows the tree to survive during periods of drought. Additionally, the roots are able to grow deep into the soil to access nutrients that other plants may not be able to reach.

Another adaptation of the Niaouli tree is its thick, spongy bark. The bark acts as a protective barrier, shielding the tree from fire and other environmental stressors. The bark is also able to absorb and store water, which helps the tree to survive during periods of drought.

In addition to these adaptations, the Niaouli tree is also able to reproduce quickly and efficiently. The tree produces numerous small, lightweight seeds that can be easily dispersed by wind or water. The tree is also able to regenerate quickly after disturbances such as fire or logging, which allows it to quickly recolonize areas that have been damaged or disturbed. These adaptations have allowed the tree to survive and thrive in some of the most challenging environments on Earth.

Benefits of Niaouli

  • It is known to have a beneficial effect for the airways. It may help to alleviate symptoms of respiratory stressors by clearing the ick from your chest and supporting healthy breathing.
  • Often used in skincare products due to its antibacterial, antifungal, and anti-inflammatory properties. It may help to soothe skin stressors.
  • Believed to have immune-supporting properties.
  • May have analgesic properties, meaning it may help to reduce discomfort and inflammation in the body. It may be particularly useful for relieving muscle discomfort.
Niaouli essential oil can be used in a variety of ways, including in diffusers, as a massage oil, or in skincare products. However, it is important to dilute the oil properly and to avoid using it in excessive amounts, as it can be irritating to the skin and mucous membranes.

Emotional Benefits

One of the unique aspects of essential oils is that they can have both physical and emotional benefits. Niaouli is the oil of Perceived Threat. This oil has a grounding and calming effect on the mind, to help reduce feelings of stress and anxiety. It can also help to promote mental clarity and focus – this would be great to use whenever you need to concentrate on a task or project. Additionally, Niaouli essential oil is believed to have a purifying effect on the energy in a room, helping to create a peaceful and harmonious environment.

Ways to Use Niaouli

Diffusing essential oils is the best way to experience the aromatic benefits of essential oils. So here are some diffuser blends that include Niaouli:

One  of my favorite DIY products to make using essential oils is a sugar scrub. This Cooling Heel Scrub with Niaouli is luxurious.

I like to fill up a cup with water while I am in the shower and add a drop of Niaouli. I use this to do a final rinse on my hair when I am done conditioning it. Not only does this help my hair feel super cleaning, but the cleansing properties in the Niaouli help to keep pesky eruptions from popping up on my back. Here are some other options to use Niaouli for hair health:

There are a few different ways to take advantage of the cleaning properties Niaouli contains. Making my own DIY cleaning products has been so beneficial to the health of my family and it saves me money. You can make an all purpose cleaner using 20 drops of Niaouli, 20 drops of Lemon in a 16oz spray bottle. Fill 1/3 of the bottle with white Vinegar and fill the rest up with water. If  making your own cleaning products excites you, you can read more about it and get recipes here: Goodbye Toxins, Hello Nature | Green Cleaning Recipes Using Essential Oils

You could also use  Niaouli to make an Owie Spray:

Niaouli would also be a great oil to add to salves. I make a miracle salve that can be used to relieve muscle discomfort or help with skin irritations: DIY Miracle Salve Recipe With Essential Oils. You can make the same miracle salve recipe and just add a few drops of Niaouli to the mix. The relaxing and purifying properties contained in Niaouli would only enhance the benefits of using the miracle salve.

Niaouli is used in many of doTERRA’s proprietary blends, but one of the blends I’d like to highlight containing Niaouli is DDR Prime. This blend contains several oils, including Frankincense, Wild Orange, Lemongrass, Thyme, Clove, Summer Savory, and Niaouli.. DDR Prime is designed to support cellular health and function by promoting a healthy response to oxidative stress.

Oxidative stress occurs when the body's cells are exposed to harmful molecules called free radicals. These molecules can damage the cells, leading to a range of health problems, including inflammation, aging, and chronic disease. DDR Prime is formulated to help combat oxidative stress by providing powerful antioxidants and other compounds that help to support cellular health.
