I love Amazon! I purchase many items from Amazon weekly because of convenience, prompt delivery, and reasonable pricing. However, one thing I will never ever purchase from Amazon are essential oils! I have encountered too many people who have received "doTERRA" essential oils from Amazon only to discover dangerous side effects, and oils that smelled, looked, and tasted differently than essential oils ordered directly from dōTERRA.

I've personally known people who have received essential oils from Amazon marketed as "doTERRA" and received bottles with white lids (doTERRA lids are black), labels that were different shades than authentic doTERRA oils, sealed bottles that smelled like turpentine, an oil labeled as fennel but smelled like peppermint, deep blue that was clear (should be blue), and a lavender oil that left burns on a woman's arm even though she had been using lavender purchased directly from doTERRA with phenomenal results for several months prior to her Amazon splurge. 

Not only is ordering your essential oils from Amazon dangerous, you are likely supporting a seller that is not based in integrity. That's right, doTERRA corporate does not sell directly on Amazon and has only approved a very select few doTERRA wellness advocates to sell on Amazon. The problem is you don't know who is an authorized doTERRA Amazon seller and who is selling a knock off because both types of sellers share the SAME listing! I know it sounds crazy, but you can make 2 orders from the SAME Amazon listing and receive an authentic oil and one knock off oil in the same order. 

In addition, the Amazon seller you are purchasing from pays a fee for each sale which averages around 15% per sale. Even if the seller is purchasing doTERRA oils at wholesale pricing for 25% off retail, which by the way, ANYONE can purchase at Wholesale pricing including you, the listing prices on Amazon reflects a typical seller will be making little to no profit on the sale. 

So how does an unauthorized Amazon seller make a profit on dōTERRA essential oils listed below retail? Adulteration and dilution are 2 of the most common ways to create a profit. Am I saying all Amazon sellers do this? No, but I question why an Amazon seller would be selling essential oils if they wouldn't be making a profit. Out of the goodness of their hearts? Unlikely.
