Looking for a fun, healthy treat that your whole family will enjoy?
I can help! Let’s make some On Guard gummy bears. These gummies are not only tasty, they also help to support a healthy immune system. The best part is they only require a few simple ingredients and are easy to make.
Ingredients:
Directions:
- Heat juice and honey in a saucepan until it reaches a low simmer (avoid boiling).
- Remove from heat.
- Add gelatin and stir gently until the gelatin is mixed well.
- Add OnGuard & Wild Orange essential oils.
- Gently stir together.
- Pour liquid into molds.
- Refrigerate for 1-2 hours until set.
- Store in airtight container in fridge for up to 2 weeks until ready to enjoy!
Benefits of OnGuard Essential Oil
- Immune booster
- Contains purifying and cleansing properties
- Supports digestive system
Benefits of Wild Orange Essential Oil
- Contains antioxidant that protect against free radicals when taken internally
- Promotes overall health
- Adds a burst of flavor to drinks
The amount of honey can be altered, if you would like it a bit sweeter just add another teaspoon.
When you’re heating your juice, keep it at a simmer. If you let it get to a boil the gelatin will be stringy and a little clumpy; a simmer will give the gummies as nice texture and they won’t be gritty.
To make these gummies immune boosting, we are going to add On Guard essential oil which will also give them a hint of cinnamon flavor and Wild Orange essential oil for natural sweetness.
I have made these gummies with both apple juice and tart cherry juice. I like the cherry juice best because it adds a bit of tartness to the sweetness of the gummies. The apple juice gummy bears end up tasting like spiced cider and were my husband's favorite.
These immune boosting gummy bears are not as sweet as the candy gummy bears that you buy in the store. They have a very mild sweetness and there will be no sugar crash if you end up eating the whole batch in one day. Plus, sugar suppresses the immune system and that is not our goal here! If you prefer, you can add a little more honey. Just taste the honey & juice mixture before pouring into the mold to make sure it has the right level of sweetness for you. Do note that it will be a little less sweet once it sets up.
The molds I used in the video are no longer available on Amazon but these
large gummy bear molds look very similar. I also use these bear molds for my
soothing lotion bars and
5 minute spearmint & rosemary soap recipes. The large molds are perfect for this recipe, and you won’t waste any of the liquid. I also love this mold specifically because the gummy bears are a little bit bigger than normal and it makes getting them out of the mold so much easier, they pop right out.
I like to pour the liquid out of my saucepan and into a measuring cup that has a spout; this will make it easier to pour into the mold.
Once the molds are full, place in the refrigerator and let sit for 1-2 hours and then you can pop them out.
My whole family loves these gummies including my husband and 5 year old daughter. My daughter also enjoys helping me make these. Here favorite part is removing them from the molds and then biting of their heads.
If you want to get creative you can always add different essential oils or use a different juice. Pomegranate juice and lime oil is a combo I haven't tried yet but it sounds delicious!
Once the gummies gel up, I pop them out of the mold and store them in a glass jar in the refrigerator. These would last a couple weeks in the fridge but our family usually gobbles them up within a day or 2.
P.S. I am working on a special recipe for elderberry gummies using my
homemade elderberry syrup which is the most visited post on this blog! As soon as it's good to go, I will share it on my blog and on YouTube, so make sure you keep a look out for that.
